FOREST HILLS NORTHERN 6 - SPARTA 0
HUSKIES ROLL TO 13th CONFERENCE WIN & CONFERENCE CHAMPIONSHIP
Sophomore Carly Belsito crashed the goal and placed the ball, which was sent back post by Junior Sophie Rammal, in the back of the net for a 1-0 advantage for the Huskies. Belsito’s goal is all the Huskies needed to not only beat the Spartans, but clinch the outright OK BLUE Conference Championship. The Huskies however would add 5 more goals in route to the 6-0 win at Sparta.
Rammal would assist on the second goal a few moments later as she flicked a ball onto the foot of the overlapping Robyn Wujkowski. The Freshman cut the ball towards goal and hit a firm shot past the Spartan keeper. “Sophie’s passing was on today. Both assists today were the result of her passing and her teammates getting into position” Head Coach Jamie Bogart stated.
Wujkowski would assist on the 3rd goal as she sent a high floating ball into the box from the right wing and to the head of Senior Hanna Schlesinger. Schlesinger’s header was hit to the lower right corner of the goal and jumped the Husky lead to 3-0. “It was a great ball sent into the box, and a header that was very much well placed.
The 3-0 advantage is what the Huskies would take to Half-time.
After half-time the Huskies started strong and it didn’t take long for Junior Maria Rich to make her presence known. Rich took a square pass from Senior Andrea Byl and from about 22 yards out hit a strike to the upper left corner of the goal just 3 minutes into the 2nd half.
The Huskies would add two more goals as Andrea Byl took a great centering ball from Senior Madeline Rammal and firmly headed home the 4th goal of the game. “It was a beautiful play all together. Madeline found AB heading back post and delivered a beautiful ball. Byl’s header was outstanding. A remarkable goal all around” Coach Bogart stated.
Freshman Alex Fraser would end the Husky goal parade as Fraser took a pass from Maria Rich, turned a defender and nailed a well placed powerful left footed shot past the Spartan keeper. The goal would be Frasers 4th of the year and Maria Rich’s 14th assist. The goal came with about 16 seconds left in the game.
With the win, the Huskies lay claim to top honors in the OK Blue conference and move to 13 and 0 in the conference. "Personally this means a lot to me. I have been coaching for 10 years and this would be my first Conference Championship" Coach Bogart would continue "I am very proud of what this team has battled through and have already accomplished." The Huskies will go for the undefeated conference record as they go on the road once again to finish out the regular season at Highland Park as they take on Grand Rapids Central. The Huskies beat the Rams earlier in the season at home 10-0. "I am not excited to see this season come to a close, we still have a lot to accomplish this year. I want to continue playing when school is out." Bogart stated.
The Huskies do return home Friday night for a Non-Conference game vs. Zeeland East, a team that the Huskies tied 0-0 last year in Zeeland. The JV game is set to start at 5:00pm with the Varsity starting around 6:40pm.
